Description
This set of three Reels is arranged for the same ensemble as virtually all others in this category: Flute 1, Flute 2 / Descant Recorder, Clarinet in Bb, Violin, Accordion / Piano / Guitar and Cello / Bass.
This is flexible to a certain extent: the main melody and the chords are contained within the Accordion part, the part I usually played.
The first melody was composed by Tom Prince, my mentor when I was being introduced to the world of Folk Music. A former blacksmith, he was a champion concertina player and a very talented musician.
This arrangement is of melodies written for dancing and, as such, should be played with a “lift” and strong rhythm. As well as providing core repertoire for a Ceilidh band, the set is ideal for submission at KS4 / GCSE as an Ensemble piece, though taking care as regards doubling of parts.
It also makes a “foot-tapping” concert piece! Enjoy playing this and then explore other music I have arranged for this combination. As usual, it is suitable for submission for GCSE Ensemble performance with any rules on doubling being observed.
