Description

This arrangement combines two traditional jig tunes: “Little Burnt Potato” and “Shetland Boston.”

Instrumentation: Flute 1, Flute 2 / Descant Recorder, Clarinet in Bb, Violin, Accordion / Piano / Guitar and Bass

This scoring is adaptable and can be played by any combination of instruments with suitable ranges, the main melody and chord sequence being in the Accordion part.

As it is primarily dance music, it should be played with a good sense of rhythm and lift. It is suitable for playing for dancing, as a concert item or as ensemble music in its own right. For a dance, each tune should be played twice and, if necessary, part or all of the sequence repeated. For a concert item, I would suggest the tunes are played as A B A. For ensemble practice, one or other tune could be played alone or the two kept together, as here. It is suitable for KS4 / GCSE students of sufficient ability and would be suitable for an ensemble performance for the major examining boards, the Level of Demand being dependent upon the part chosen.

I hope you enjoy these tunes as much as I do.
