Description
This arrangement of 3 Jig tunes comprises one traditional tune and two that I composed back in 1981. It is arranged here for the usual folk-style ensemble:
Instrumentation: Flute 1, Flute 2 / Descant Recorder, Clarinet in Bb, Violin, Accordion / Piano / Guitar and Bass.
It is a flexible arrangement with the main melody and chords being indicated in the Accordion part. Other melody instruments can be substituted to reflect the available resources. The accompaniment / bass can be provided by guitar, piano and / or bass.
These tunes were written to accompany dancing as well as to be enjoyed by players and listeners alike: therefore, they should be played in a lively manner and with a good sense of rhythm. I hope you enjoy playing them as much as I have over the years.
This arrangement, while primarily aimed at a Folk / Ceilidh Band and dancing, will make good ensemble practice, using one or more parts of the set. It is well suited to KS4 / GCSE groups and would be admissible for an Ensemble performance for any of the major examination boards, provided that rules concerning ‘doubling’ are carefully observed.
