Description

This arrangement is based on two folk-style melodies I composed in 1982 to commemorate the passing of my very first dog, Taffy. The nature of these tunes i testament to what a lively dog she was. I have decided to do it as another in my series of “variable” arrangements, suitable for a many combinations, from a single melody line plus accompaniment to a 6-part ensemble. The fact that the Clarinet part is scored in both Bb and C means that its part can be played by a other instrument with the necessary range. The arrangement has a short introduction and ends with a short coda.

The first tune is a 48-bar Jig – Taffy’s Jig – and this gives way to a Reel – The Old Black Dog.

It is suitable for playing at a concert, for ensemble work or as part of the Performing submission for the major GCSE examination boards, being careful to avoid any doubling.
