Description

Instrumentation: Flute 1, Flute 2 / Descant Recorder, Clarinet in Bb, Violin, Accordion / Piano / Guitar and Bass.

This set of 4 reels opens with the tune which has the same name as the dance for which it is used. The other reels work well alongside it and, during the arrangement, various different figures are used, including close imitation and arpeggios. It is obviously primarily dance music but is also a fun piece, featuring 4 catchy tunes. As such, it works well as a concert item or just for the sheer enjoyment of ensemble playing, where it can also be used within the GCSE performing context, given due attention to ‘doubling’.
