Description

This is another my series of adaptable arrangements, initially scored for Flute 1, Flute 2 / Descant recorder, Clarinet in Bb, Violin, Accordion / Piano / Guitar and ‘Cello / Bass. It comprises two traditional Slip Jigs – Jigs in 9/8, used for traditional dances such as ‘Strip the Willow’ – Sir Roger de Coverley and Peacock followed the Hen.

It is suitable for use at KS4 / GCSE, for a Folk Band or a Ceilidh band. If used for GCSE Ensemble, care must be taken regarding any rules regarding ‘doubling’. After presenting the melody in all instruments save the Bass, the parts split to provide various harmonies.

There are two points to notice about the full recording enclosed with this order: firstly, at MM 96, it is, perhaps a little steady but the normal practice, certainly with Strip the Willow, is for the music to speed up as the dancers become more proficient at the dance and, secondly, for reasons best known to Sibelius playback, when doing the Da Capo, it omits the repeats! These must be done when actually performing this music.
