Description
Instrumentation: standard Wind band
This arrangement was done when I was Head of Music in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and was revived during my last spell as a teacher.
It combines the traditional English folk tune Greensleeves with a Morris dance tune from the Sherbourne tradition, providing a march-like middle section.
The setting of Greensleeves primarily uses a modal version of that tune and weaves above it a countermelody, initially in flutes but then extended to clarinets and saxophone. The slow compound pulse takes a little getting used to and care must be taken not to rush this.
Similarly, the middle section is to be taken at a march tempo.
There is a Da capo and a Coda.
