Description
Instrumentation: Wind Band
This arrangement of the delightful French Carol, a tune I first learnt to sing at the age of 11, is written for a standard Wind Band line-up but without drum kit and with a part for the distinctive timbre of the glockenspiel, whose bell-like, tinkling sound seemed very appropriate within the context of this Christmas arrangement.
It opens with a gradual build-up of the texture until the melody is introduced first by the trumpets. Open fifths are used at times in the accompaniment to give a more folk-like, rustic quality to the sound while upper woodwind and the glockenspiel return regularly with their own chiming effect.
